Description
Soft, buttery bakery-style Valentine’s Day sugar cookies with pastel icing.
Ingredients
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp almond extract (optional)
Icing or buttercream for decorating
Instructions
1. Cream butter and sugar until smooth.
2. Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract.
3. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
4. Mix dry ingredients into wet until dough forms.
5. Divide, wrap, and chill dough for 30 minutes.
6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
7. Roll dough 1/4 inch thick, cut heart shapes.
8. Bake 8–10 minutes until edges lightly golden.
9. Cool completely before decorating.
Notes
Chill dough before rolling for clean shapes.
Use almond extract for bakery flavor.
Store decorated cookies in a single layer.
