Description

Soft, chewy, and bursting with melty chocolate chips, these banana chocolate chip cookies are the perfect way to use up ripe bananas. Easy to make, full of comforting flavor, and ideal for sharing—or keeping all to yourself.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour (sifted)

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)

  • ½ cup packed brown sugar

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 large ripe banana (mashed, about ½ cup)

  • 1 egg yolk

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • (Optional: ½ cup chopped walnuts or ½ teaspoon cinnamon)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  • In a large bowl, cream the softened butter with both sugars until light and fluffy.

  • Mix in mashed banana, egg yolk, and vanilla until fully combined.

  • Gradually add dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Stir just until combined—do not overmix.

  • Fold in chocolate chips (and optional nuts or spices).

  • Scoop dough onto baking sheet, spacing 2 inches apart. Press a few extra chocolate chips on top for a bakery-style finish.

  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are golden and centers still look soft.

  • Let cool on the tray for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Use a very ripe banana for best flavor and moisture.

  • To make these vegan, substitute butter with plant-based margarine and use a flax egg.

  • For a gluten-free version, use a 1:1 GF baking flour and check chocolate chip labels.
